Spring 2
Year 6 have been working hard on their sketchbooks and how they are presenting their work and response to different artists.
So far we have been studying different pieces of art and interpreting the story behind each painting.
Thursday 27th March
The children used their sketchbook ideas to transform into a larger piece of work. Last week they researched an artist we had already looked at or one of their own choosing. Today they used all the skills they have developed in painting to produce their own final art piece.
Thursday 13th March
LO: Apply interpretation skills to analyse and respond to an abstract painting.
Today we looked at Frank Bowling's techniques with paint: dripping and pouring, mixing interesting textures, adding objects to the canvas and creating surface rubbings to add shapes.
The children then responded by creating their own pieces of art. We added salt and sugar to create different textures, poured and splattered paint, carved shapes and lines into these layers of paint and had a lot of fun doing so!
Year 6 found this way of creating abstract art exciting and commented on how they felt free to create art that reflected different emotions and feelings. They wrote some great responses to the statement "Abstract art represents feelings better than realism". They have built the skills to describe the work of artists, and create abstract art using personal experiences that relfect their feelings.
