On day 1, the children need to recognise angles as a measure of a turn. They will practice making 1/2 , 1/4 , 3/4 and whole turns from different starting points in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions in practical contexts.
The children will need to start off by practicing to move in turns themselves. They need to be in a room where the 4 walls have been labelled (e.g: North, South, East and West). They need to be given instructions to make 1/2 , 1/4 , 3/4 and whole turns, both clockwise and anti-clockwise from different starting points.
