Westonzoyland Primary School ‘Achieving, Learning and Growing Together’

Week Beginning 30/03/20

Friday 3rd April 2020

Good morning,

Its very weird to think that after two weeks ov home learning, its about to be the Easter Holidays! Ill be making a separate page for Easter Holiday activities- so do check it out. Should be goin up very soon.

Stay safe!

Mrs Meyers

Easter: Here are some Easter-themed word problems! Sheet 1 is easier than sheet 2.

Stone Age: I'm afraid that this one will only really work if you have a printer (or are very happy copying from the screen) but here is a Stone Age Survival board game to play at home!

Art: Here are some art activities to do with crayons (please ask permission before doing any of the ones that involve heat/ cutting crayons)!

Kindness: Today's kindness is all about yourself again. After a couple of weeks of being at home, it may be feeling a bit strange. Check in with yourself- how are you feeling? What emotions can you detect? Do you have any worries? Share these with a parent or a friend- can you make your worries disappear?

Thursday 2nd April 2020

Good morning!

It doesn't look like a very nice day outside and I am hoping the weather cheers up a bit so I can spend some time in my garden because it is really important to get some fresh air and to get outside but only if you are being safe and following social distancing rules but it is usually ok in your garden or outdoor space so I hope it will be nice weather soon!

Mrs Meyers

P.S. I seem to have forgotten how to use full stops and just used conjunctions to make run on sentences. How would you edit my work?

SPAG: Have a go at these fluency and reasoning questions on prefixes and suffixes. The first page is red work, the middle page is green and the final page is purple. It does say Year 6, however it is suitable for Year 5 too so don't worry!

Spelling: Practise five of our Year 5 and 6 statutory spellings on these word mats (or in your books).

English: What is this lady to do? Research into sharks and then write her an explanatory paragraph about how sharks eat/ hunt and what she might need to do instead. Focus on your use of parenthesis.

Times Tables: Don't forget to practise those tables! Here are some activities that you can do or try the websites.

Kindness: As it is Thursday, I thought we should have a star of the week (again)! So, choose someone that has been a star for you. It might be a parent, sibling, friend or someone you know who is working hard at the moment (doctors/nurses/shop workers etc.). Make them a certificate and share with them why they are your star of the week. If you can't see them face to face, take a photograph and send them an email/ picture message. If you need me to pass any on (classmates/people at school) send them to me at 414.hobby@educ.somerset.gov.uk and I will email them out!

Mercredi 1 avril 2020

Mme Meyers

Skimming and Scanning: Back by popular demand: skimming and scanning! If you can't print the sheets, you can try to find all of the words on the screen instead and then answer the questions in your home learning book.

Maths: Have a go at these real life problems using place value (Year 5) and position and direction (Year 6). You can do both if you wish! Some groups have done these activities at school, but you may have forgotten them! You don't need to print these out, but can read the text online and answer in your home learning books.

School Trip: I really enjoyed last week's trip, so this week we are all heading back to France to visit The Louvre: https://www.louvre.fr/en/visites-en-ligne

It's really big so make sure that you don't get lost. Take a screenshot of your favourite artwork and then write a paragraph about why you like it.

Kindness: Make a thank you card for someone that you know who is working hard to keep us all safe. It may be: an NHS worker who is looking after people who are poorly; a retail worker who is making sure we have food on our table; a farmer who is growing said food; a teacher who is ensuring schools are open for people who need it; or anyone else you can think of!

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Good morning!

I can't believe it is the end of March. I feel like it has gone really quickly. I always think of Spring and flowers when I think of April. I am hoping to make a cake today. I will post a picture if it looks good. I am sure it will be yummy even if it looks rubbish.

I hope you have a good day!

Mrs Meyers

P.S. No mistakes today but there is definitely something wrong with my writing- can you figure out what?

SPAG: Have a go at these fluency and reasoning questions on different word classes (again- not the same sheets). The first page is red work, the middle page is green and the final page is purple. It does say Year 6, however it is suitable for Year 5 too so don't worry!

Spelling: Practise five of our Year 5 and 6 statutory spellings on these word mats (or in your books).

English: Breaking News! Giraffes escape from local zoo. Write a newspaper article about this happening. Think about using the passive voice in your sentences and formal vocabulary and structures.

Times Tables: Don't forget to practise those tables! Here are some activities that you can do or try the website that I shared on Friday. If you already know your 5s, try your 7s today!

Kindness: For today, I would like you to be extra kind with your words. Try to give everyone a compliment when you speak to them/ video call them/ write to them. I know you are brilliant at coming up with kind things to say about others so this should be a really easy task.

Monday 30th March 2020

Good morning!

I you have all had great weekend and ready to learn this morning! I spent some with the bunnies and getting things ready the baby so have been very busy.

Remember that you missed some activities from last week, you can still them on the last page. Also, look the links for lots ideas!

Mrs Meyers

P.S. I think some of my words are missing today! Can you spot where they should be and what is missing?

Reading Comprehensions: Level 2 is more challenging than Level 1. These don't need printing out- you can do the reading online and then answer the questions in your home learning books!

English: What experiment did this person do? Write a set of instructions (including What You Need and What To Do). They can be as wacky as you want but remember your time conjunctions and bossy (imperative)verbs!

Maths: Have a go at these real life problems using area and perimeter (Year 5) and fractions (Year 6). You can do both if you wish! Some groups have done these activities at school, but you may have forgotten them! You don't need to print these out, but can read the text online and answer in your home learning books.

Kindness: An extra special kindness task today. And a secret one! On Wednesday, it is Mrs Garbett's birthday and it is a special one this year (one with a 0 at the end)! So I thought it would be nice to make her some pictures, cards, posters, banners and messages that we can share with her on Wednesday. If you make anything, send it to me at 414.Hobby@educ.somerset.gov.uk by 3pm Tuesday so I can collate them and create a special page for Mrs Garbett to look at on her birthday! But shhhhhh don't tell her.
