Phonics

01.04.20

Read Write Inc are offering free phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch and join in at home.

There are three short speed sound lessons each day.

The order for these lessons are as follows:

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am
  • Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am
  • Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am

Please note these will only be available for 24 hours, this means you either need to watch the live session or need to catch up on this on the day of it being put online. They have also added resources for parents here:

This is the programme we follow, so the children should be more familiar with this. I hope it is helpful!

Every day Twinkl are doing live sessions of Phonics. This is scheduled in from 9:30-10:30. 9:30-10am are phase 2 sounds and 10-10:30 are phase 3 sounds for age range 5-7.

UPDATE

I am currently sat watching the phase 3 phonics session for ages 5-7 provided by Twinkl. I think that the live session gives lots of opportunities for children to practise their sounds, it is not necessarily how we run our RWI sessions but it does provide you with a model of how to engage the children with their sounds.

I found it tricky to actually find so I have attached the link...

Resources

The children have really been enjoying handwriting time at school. I have provided these handwriting and formation practise sheets. However, you do not need to print these, you can practise them in the purple books provided. The 100 high frequency words are useful for the children's English and writing and will help support them whilst they are not at school doing usual RWI sessions.

A sound a day...

I have added a couple of activities for the split diagraph i _ e because we have not yet covered this in our English sessions (some of the children will have focused on this in their RWI sessions).

The children enjoy watching Geraldine the Giraffe to learn their sounds. There are some great resources on YouTube to support teaching different diagraphs.
