Westonzoyland Primary School ‘Achieving, Learning and Growing Together’

Monday

Monday 1st June

Good morning everyone! Today, we have lots of spelling activities for English and some addition and subtraction revision for Maths. We are going to be ambitious and try and learn our days of the week in French today! I would love to see some videos of you pronouncing the words correctly!

I will have my ipad on me all day, so will try to reply to your emails as they come in. Have a lovely day! smiley

English: Spelling, words ending in -tion

The letters -tion usually appear at the end of a word.

But be careful, can you see which spelling today has the -tion in the middle of the word?

Today's spelling might be a little tricky. That's because the suffix -tion doesn't follow the same rules as the previous suffixes (where we can look at the root word and add a suffix to change its meaning). That means we might need a little more practice with our spellings this week!

For today's first task, I would like you to get a sheet of paper and lots of coloured pens. We are going to do some rainbow writing just like we do at school!

To do this, you need to write each of your words in as many ways as you can all over the page! Try out some of these ideas:

  • Bubble writing
  • writing in spots
  • spiky writing
  • writing with your non dominant hand
  • swirly writing
  • capital letters
  • writing in a different colour for each letter
  • What other types of writing can you come up with?

Now try your look, say, cover, write.

Today, there is also a crossword  for you to try, as well as an extra task for the left over words from the crossword.

Finally, try and find all of today's spellings in this crossword, then practice your beautiful handwriting!

Maths: Addition and Subtraction recap

Using all of the skills you have learnt over the past couple of weeks, today I would like you to revise your addition and subtraction skills. Try and use the methods you have been taught (so no counting on fingers!)

Now why not try one of the additiona nd subrtaction games on ICT games to test your skills!

French: Days of the week

Today we are going to learn our days of the week in French!

The French Days of the Week

Les jours de la semaine - alain le lait (French days of the week)

Once you have mastered your days of the week, why not try this days of the week game! All you need is the printed board and a dice smiley

Or why not try making a french chatterbox to test your skills. I used to love making these when I was at school!
