Hobby – Miss Grant (Year 5/6)

Welcome to Hobby Class

Hello and welcome to Autumn term in Hobby class.

Our topic this term is 'Frozen Planet!' We are all very excited to learn about some amazing historic explorers; the life and adaptation of arctic animals and the range and reasons for climate zones across the globe.

Our days for P.E this term are Monday and Tuesdays, although it would be helpful if the children could have their PE kits in everyday in case of any timetable changes. This will also provide them with a change of shoes for muddy days on the field or in the garden area!

Reading records and Homework will be collected in on Fridays.

The Hobby Team

Merry Christmas Hobby class!!

We hope you all have a truly magical Christmas! Rest up, spend time with your families and we can't wait to see you all in the new year!!

For a bit of end-of-term fun we have put together our own covid version of '12 Days of Christmas'. Thank you to Hobby class for the inspiration - you know who you are!

We hope it brings a smile to your faces!

Love Miss Grant and Miss Hellyer x

In Hobby we talked about Rememberance Day and created our own poppies.
In R.E we have been learning about Hinduism. We recently learned about Hindu festivals including Diwali. The children created their own Rangoli patterns to celebrate the festival of light using different mediums.
Some of the children have created their own models for our Native Indian topic.

We have had great fun this term learning all about the Native Americans! Here is our Topic display exhibiting some of our tribal posters, dreamcatchers and totem pole designs.

Over the last two weeks we have been working in groups, creating powerpoint presentations about various aspects of Native American Life. We have researched Weapons, religion and beliefs, entertainment, clothing and tools used.  Yesterday we presented these to the rest of the class.

31/01/20 As part of our half term’s social play learning, we have been thinking about how people with different needs would find our classroom and social environment. This week we used blindfolds to simulate a sight difficulty. We found it tricky to enjoy the activities that we usually do such as drawing, card games and moving around the room.

30/01/20 We have been learning about genetics in our science lessons. Here we are making our own geneticons!

16/01/20 Hobby Class were editing their work today by visiting different stations on the editing train line! It helped us to remember what we need to include and gave us some helpful hints if we forgot what something meant.

06/12/19 Hobby Class are really enjoying Social Play where we learn different games to play with each other. Our teamwork and communication skills have really improved. Here we have children playing werewolf, carrot and stick, silent ball and drawing games.

5/11/19 We used atlases and maps to look at different places in the U.K. We then learned about how land can be used for different things such as farming, hills, rivers and cities.

Missing photos! Some photos on our class page have gone missing! Mrs Meyers is hunting to see if she can find them again and put them back online. Sorry for this.

20/09/19 Working with some of Osprey Class, we played some barrier games to test our communication skills. What a lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon!

30/09/19 We love writing up our work into our final write books.
