This Term's Learning Expedition

This half term we will be exploring Oh The Places You'll Go in our learning. This will involve us finding out about lots of different forms of transport throughout history as well as famous people who have helped develop the way we travel today. See our curriculum map in the link below to find out how we will be involving all curriculum areas.

This afternoon in our Science lesson we have been learning about friction and how some surfaces produce more friction and therefore make it harder for objects to move across them.

Here are some piccollages that we created while we were testing the friction produced by different surfaces.

Friday 15th December We had a very special visitor while we were eating our Christmas dinner today! Santa bought us a Christmas gift which had some very exciting books for us all to share. So we know which ones belong to us we created labels to go into our books and enjoyed starting to read them as well! Thank you very much Santa!

Friday 1st December Today in our English lesson we were getting close to the end of the story we have been working on this half term, The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy. Before we read the end of the story we made predictions about what we though the main character Jub was going to do next after the twisted old witch had stolen all of the Happy Endings from her.

Tuesday 7th November Today we worked with our partners to represent different multiplication calculations in different ways using objects, images and jottings. This will help us with our upcoming maths unit on multiplication and division.

Wednesday 1st November Today in maths we did an investigation to find out how we could split 15p into 4 money bags to allow us to buy any item priced from 1p up to 15p. It was quiet a challenge to begin with but once we began working systematically we all managed to solve the problem!

Friday 22nd September 2017

This we have been using column addition to help us solve addition calculations and we have been re-imagining the story of Jack in the Beanstalk to create our own adventures for Jack, they have been very imaginative! Well done Eagle class!

We also had a very different Art lesson this week. We are exploring Georgia O'Keefe's painting The Lawrence Tree, we had lots of imaginative ideas about what the painting could be showing but decided it is mostly likely from the point of view of someone lying under a tree looking up at the stars. We decided to recreate a sketch of the painting by drawing under our tables, as if we were lying under a tree ourselves. It was tricky but we really enjoyed ourselves.

In today’s lesson we used a variety of musical instruments, as well as our voices, to create the sounds of the storm we thought the boy in our story, Into the Forest by Anthony Browne, would be able to hear.

PE

Our PE day is currently Wednesday. However please make sure your child has their P.E. kits in every day in case of timetable changes. Could all clothing be clearly named also to avoid anything getting lost.

Homework

The children will be expected to read at least 3 times at home during the week. Please could you write in the name of the book and pages read and sign this in your child’s reading log. I will be collecting these in every Friday to monitor reading of the week. It is important that your child practises their reading at home to ensure they make good progress.

Spellings will be sent home on a weekly basis to reinforce spelling patterns and strategies introduced throughout the week during phonic and spelling sessions. Please could you encourage your child to practise these at home as these will be tested on a Friday.

Times tables should be practised throughout the week as the children will be tested on these in their maths lessons on a Friday. This should be ongoing so please try to practise them with your child at any possible opportunity.

Reading, Spelling and Times Tables will be the main priority for your child’s homework. Other pieces of homework may be sent home on occasions but this will not be every week and will not always be a written piece. Privilege time will be awarded on a Friday afternoon to children who complete all homework.
