We made our very own 'Hit the button' games on the playground to practice our number bonds.

We are learning about different habitats and have been around school finding creatures within our habitat.

What fabulous mathematicians we are!

We have been making numbers using numicon. We had to pick a number card and then work out how many tens and ones we needed.

PE

Our PE day is currently Tuesday. However please make sure your child has their P.E. kits in every day in case of timetable changes. Could all clothing be clearly named also to avoid anything getting lost.

Homework

The children will be expected to read at least 3 times at home during the week. Please could you write in the name of the book and pages read and sign this in your child’s reading log. I will be collecting these in every Monday to monitor reading of the previous week. It is important that your child practises their reading at home to ensure they make good progress. A reading reward scheme has been introduced to ensure that regular home reading is celebrated in the classroom. This year we will be particularly focussing on fluency and expression. Children make better progress in these skills with books that they are familiar and comfortable with. Therefore, please try to read each book that is sent home at least twice.

Read Write inc books will be sent home on a weekly basis to reinforce spelling patterns and reading strategies introduced throughout the week during phonic sessions. Please could you encourage your child to practise these at home. This could be in the form of sharing the story with your child, practicing reading, writing and spelling key words found in the book and writing key words into sentences. These will not be tested, but practice is essential.

There will also occasionally be some Maths homework to be completed. This may take the form of a worksheet or a challenge and will reinforce the learning taught throughout the week. However, regular counting and number recognition practice will greatly aid your child's mathematical development.

Other pieces of homework may be sent home on occasions but this will not be every week and will not always be a written piece.

Star of the week

Each week 2 children will be chosen as Star of the week in recognition of their achievements throughout the week. You will be notified if your child has been chosen on Fridays, with celebration assembly to be held the following Wednesday. If your child has been chosen, they have the opportunity to bring an item in for show and tell during their special week.

Please note: Only children who are Star of the week will be able to show their special items to the class, so please refrain from allowing children to bring toys and other belongings into school at other times.
