Friday 23rd June
This week Kestrel Class have been revising and learning the times tables through a number of different games. They also enjoyed using the laptops and iPads to access games online to support their learning.
They later, worked in pairs to devise their own Maths games which they will be making and testing out next week.
In our English lessons we listened to and discussed the story 'The Enchanted Garden'. We went on to learn the story and explore it further by using drama to act out different parts. The children then looked for ways in which they could change the story to make their own versions.
We had a fantastic outdoor learning session on Thursday afternoon. We were delighted to welcome Mrs Butler back to help us with our topic on plants. We worked hard all afternoon weeding and planting and transforming the flower beds. We also enjoyed a bit of pond dipping and caught some beautiful little creatures which we safely returned to their pond habitat.
Friday 16th June
Kestrel Class worked closely with Buzzard Class this week, sharing their thoughts and memories of the visit to Cannington Farm and Walled Gardens. We discussed the many photographs and shared what we had learnt and also our favourite parts. We then wrote Thank you letters to Danni at the farm.
We looked at different paintings and drawings of Glastonbury Tor and discussed our favourite pieces. We then used chalk pastels to create our own abstract pictures of the Tor, taking inspiration from the work of other artists.
Friday 9th June
Kestrel Class have had a fantastic 'Healthy Lifestyles Week'! They have taken part in lots of different physical activities and learnt all about keeping fit and healthy.
They enjoyed a great trip out to Cannington Farm and Walled Gardens on Wednesday where they learnt all about life on the farm and the amazing plant life at the gardens.
I was incredibly proud of all their efforts on Sports Day on Friday. They all had great fun and displayed a great sporting attitude. Well Done Kestrels!
Friday 26th May
The children having been loving our enchanted classroom. They have spent a lot of their own time adding to 'Kestrel Fairy Village' and have been delighted to see that they've managed to attract little visitors on several occasions. Their creations are amazing!
The children have been using iPads and laptops to search the internet to discover interesting facts about some of our local landmarks. What amazing facts can you find out?
A big well done to Kestrel Class for achieving 100% in their attendance last week. We celebrated with a trip to the park!
Whilst we were there we also took the opportunity to carry out our sponsored walk/run for the NSPCC.
Friday 19th May
This week the children have been learning how to write instructions in English. They wrote a clear set of instructions of how to make fairy cakes after a wonderful afternoon of baking with Mrs Cox. ( A big Thank you to Mrs Cox for giving up your time for us!) They carefully followed a recipe and also put their maths skills to good use by weighing and measuring the ingredients. The cakes turned out great! We even made some for our visiting fairies!
Evee went home that evening and followed the instructions to make some fantastic fairy cakes for the class. Thank you Evee. They looked amazing and tasted delicious!
The children carefully painted their model toadstools this week to create a magical fairy ring for our enchanted fairy village. It's wonderful to see the children working on little creations at home too. We can't wait to see if the fairies visit over the weekend!
We really enjoyed sharing the book 'My Magical Garden' this week. It is a book which takes the children on a special enchanted journey into their own magical place. They get to visualise and create what and who is in their garden and later learn about the significance of their choices. The children loved this book and the different activities we did based on the book. It really got their imaginations working and there was a special visualisation session which really helped them to focus. The children loved making their choices and using drawings to share and discuss their magical gardens.
A wonderful book for parents to share too!
